13th of April THE BATTLE IS ON

Today is the start of the Thai new year celebrations which is called Songkran.  It is celebrated by throwing water at everybody and having water thrown at us.
In the morning we took a Tuk Tuk (a small three wheeled vehicle with seating for passengers) this took us for a tour around the old city of Ayuthaya.  We were staying over the water channel from part of the old city.
Ayuthaya is six hundred years old and was burned down by the Burmese people.  It is starting to sink and was hand built with bricks that were made with rice hulls & clay.
After the visit to the old city the tuk tuk drive took us down a street when we got bombed with much water and painted us with coloured clay all over our faces.
We went to a market and saw some weird and wonderful animals that they eat, brought some water pistols along with some fruit. We stayed at the market and did lots of wetting of people and cars.
After that we went back to the hotel for a swim and went for lunch next door at a traditional Thai street sit down and eat, was the best lunch we had for a long time, we had to point at the pictures on the menu to order what we wanted.
After lunch we went up the street to Max bar to have a drink and get involved in the wetting of people walking and driving past.
Back to the hotel for another swim and some rest and then caught another tuk tuk to a restaurant on the river and had a hot pot.  We had to order plates of meat and vegetables to cook ourselves on a metal dish over hot coals at our table.  After dinner we walk awhile and got a tuk tuk back to the hotel.  As part of the Thai new year there was some fireworks.
